Ziyao Tian

Welcome to my academic website!

My name is Ziyao Tian (zih-yao tih-an; she/her). I am a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Princeton University.

My main research areas are stratification and inequality, economic sociology, education, race and ethnicity, immigration, and Asian American Studies.

A primary line of research examines the stratification of Asian Americans. Another strand of my research investigates how money works in and for families.

I use quantitative and qualitative methods to pursue my research agenda and have worked with historical censuses, administrative data, national surveys, and original, in-depth interviews.

I received my B.A. in Sociology from Peking University and an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Stanford University.
